Hello and Welcome! October 18th, 2010

Welcome to My-Mind-Maps.com!

My name is FT Bletsas, I live in Greece and apart from all of my other activities, I also have a passion about Mind Maps. I love creating Mind Maps. They help me learn and file information and they also help me relax and focus on something creative whenever I need to do so.

I created this website to share with you my Mind Map Creations because many of you who have seen my journal (mind map book) have asked me to do so. Most of the mind maps on this site are summaries of books I have read and studied. Some of them come from Seminars I attended or Audio Books I have listened to. Some of them are my personal creations and summaries of the books and scripts I have written. Some of the mind maps are in Greek and some contain both Greek and English.

I hope this will inspire you to use mind mapping as well. It is one of the things that has profoundly changed my life. Feel free to spend some time and dive into them. You will be amazed how much time you can spend staring on even just one of them. Let me know what you think and share your thoughts by leaving your comments.

Hugs and Smiles :-)

FT

5 Steps To Organize Up To Thousands Of Mind Maps Easily February 26th, 2011

The more mind maps we create, the bigger the pile of mind maps we have. I don’t know about you, but this is something which is a limiting factor for many people. They use a mind map as a tool to have a better overview, and they end up having all these mind maps which may even tell them less.

The same of course applies to note-taking, to-do lists, etc. When you create too many overviews, you lose track of your valuable information.

Fortunately there is a cure!

It works in every situation and you can start applying this right now. Here it is:

Organize Your Information

Yes, I know you probably think: ’Of course Arjen, that is something which will help. Only I did that and it didn’t work…’.

I guess you didn’t do it long enough and do it the right way then.

I firmly believe we can accomplish (almost) everything we can imagine. If it wasn’t for the thoughts and inventions of many people before us, we would still walk around naked…

The only thing many successful people do, which is different from what the average person does, is that she/he sticks to the plan and makes sure the goal is reached. The same applies to getting organized.

Right now, you will receive a simple yet effective 5 step approach to organizing your thoughts, dreams, notes, ideas and information using a Master Mind map.

Master Mind Mapping

A master mind map is a map that shows you all your information on a certain topic in just one simple visual overview.

Right now, I want to make sure you start to create your own master mind map. Today we have a look at how you do this on your computer. Any visual mapping tool can do this for you. It doesn’t matter if you are on a MAC or a Windows computer.

1. Create a new map called My Master Map

Store this map in a folder which you backup regularly. Call the map Master Map.

2. Name the center of the map Master Map

Give the center of your map a name. In fact, the name itself is not that important. Just make sure you know it is your master map.

3. Add your information

Since I don’t know what information you have to add to the map, let me tell you what I included in my map.

Books I read
Books I write
Training courses (both online as well as of-line)
Marketing information
Associates (yes, once I work with you, you become part of a map or even a new map)
Sales information
Websites
Etc.

All these topics are separate topics in my Master Map. Once you populated it with your own information, we proceed to the next step.

4. Add links to new overview maps

You hyperlink to a new map. This map could be the direct mind map you have on that topic (for instance sales information). It could also be another mind map overview (for instance the one on books). In my overview, I have for instance links there to the books I wrote. You can call this a mini Master Map.

You can also create hyperlinks to important documents, email addresses, sheets, presentations, etc.

You are in charge of your own map. You decide what you like to store.

5. Add content to the maps, when needed

Every day you start the day by opening your Master Map. You add new information to your mind maps. Do this when you need to do this, not when you take time to do this (cause there is never time to do that)

In steps 3 and 4 you created the foundation of a mind map network which will work for you. Be sure that you keep it updated. You feed the Master Map with information, you receive overview and knowledge in return.

Don’t think you have to create an entire network of mind maps immediately. Take your time. Rome wasn’t built in one day. You don’t have to create a network of the dozens or hundreds of maps you have now.

IMPORTANT: Not all your mind maps should be added to the network. Remember that it is not the quantity of the network which determines the value, but the quality. You have to make sure you can ‘read’ and, more importantly, use your information.

If you have any questions on this topic, let me know.

Creating clarity and overview in your information will give you a clear mind. This is vital when you want to create success in your life. When you like to learn more on how you can manage yourself, your environment and how information influences you, have a look at http://MindmapsUnleashed.com

The Importance of Mind Maps February 10th, 2011

A lot of researches have been done in order to developed and strategize the effective ways on the process of learning for students. For developing students with creative thinking in a modern environment world of today, we need to always be well ahead of everyone and that is why the mind map concept is important to students who wanted to achieve their dreams. This method is a learning process which involves graphical way in representing ideas and concepts. It is like a visual thinking tool that helps you structure information, analyze a topic much better, comprehend, synthesize, recall and also generate new ideas easily. In other word, the information through mind map is structured in such a way so that it can help your brain works faster.

Some of the elements that make the mind map method important is the simple and short text used enabling you for easy understanding its content, along with it’s not too small font size so that your eyes will not feel tired when looking at it, plus also feeling bored because of reading it. Graphical signs being used in your mind map such as arrows, squares and round shapes definitely help you to create network interface for easy understanding of certain topics. By adding picture drawing or sketches for explaining certain content in selected topics will provide easy understanding, plus also strengthening your memory on each of the related pictures involved.

You must also determine the gist of the content and also the facts by underlining the wordings which is relevant to the related topics. Sketching of symbols and graphic along with certain color is a good technique in doing mind mapping so that you will be able to understand easily and quickly. Practicing the usage of the mind map can be done by individual students or even through a team of students so that they can learn to collaborate and cooperate effectively not only during their learning process but also in their daily life. When a student have mastered the art of mind map techniques, they will be able to acquire analytic skills on whatever sketches or symbols they intend to portray in the mind map notes. This is important because all of this exercise will in the end generate an analytical attitude to the students.

According to a writer named Dilip Mukerjea who wrote a book called “Superbrain” in 1996, through a mind mapping method a person will be able to…”learn MORE, remember MORE, use LESS paper, invest LESS effort…” or in other word this method enables a person to gather lots of knowledge, upgrade one’s ability to memorize information without wasting lots of papers and energy.

Capturing And Overviewing Great Ideas With Mind Mapping February 5th, 2011

Whenever you are looking for great ideas, new insights or you are just looking for answers, you should consider using a Mind Map for getting results. Of course there are other forms of visual mapping you could consider as well. Let’s focus on the Mind Map today. I’m confident you can apply these thoughts on different mapping methods as well.

There are two things you have to consider when you are capturing and overviewing your thoughts. Here they are.

Your Mind Creates Ideas, The Mind Map Creates Overview This is very easy to understand. You have these amazing ideas stored in your head. The Mind Map is only a format that shows you what you already know.

Most people who are Mind Mapping believe it is the Mind Map that creates the ideas. Understand that the Mind Map is only a tool that lets you overview the thoughts you have on one sheet of paper. A Mind Map cannot do anything without you. It may only give you a fresh perspective on familiar thoughts.

By seeing all the thoughts, ideas and concepts on one sheet of paper, your mind may find new angles on a problem or topic.

When you create a Mind Map, whether this is on paper or on your computer, you need to be quick and precise.

You must act quickly in order to capture the flow of ideas on your sheet. Don’t start to draw images in the beginning. Don’t try to find the best suited structure or format for your Mind Map. In this stage, it is all about thought capturing.

You need to be precise because your mind gives you the information in a certain order (most of the time). It is up to you to create branches, sub branches and relationship lines.

When you capture the right concepts and thoughts and you put these on the right place, you can use the map to create more wonderful ideas.

This is where you use the overview to dive deeper into your own mind.

The practical side of Mind Mapping on paper: a good overview During my training courses, I ask people to create notes on a short presentation I give. After the presentation, they learn how to Mind Map and they create their first Mind Map.

9 out of 10 people who create their first Mind Map on paper do this the same way. They:

use the entire sheet of paper
write much large than they normally do

So many people fill their sheet from left to right and top to bottom. They cover every inch of the sheet with lines, images and words. They are learning to use a new tool and they are totally getting into the drawing aspect of the Mind Map. When I ask them to add new information to their freshly created Mind Map, this creates a problem for most. They used the entire sheet of paper and lack room for additional information.

This is usually the moment they start to see problems for the usage of Mind Maps…

It is really interesting to see that they don’t notice that their Mind Map sheet is twice the size of their original sheet. Also, they use less information in the Mind Map… When you want to get the most out of your Mind Maps, I would like to advise you not to write too big. Yes, you have lots of space, yet this has to be filled with information, not big letters and drawings.

When you want to overview lots of information, you need to let it run free on a large sheet. Make sure this is an easy to read and practical overview. Do not write larger than you would normally do. One of the strengths of Mind Mapping is that you can add new thoughts and ideas to your overview easily. Unless… you write larger than you would normally do.

“To give your sheep or cow a large, spacious meadow is the way to control him”

The bigger the meadow, the larger the cows you can have on it? Just keep it practical. Don’t write larger if you don’t have to. The Law Of Parkinson doesn’t apply to Mind Mapping sheets as well, right?

Creating clarity and overview in your information will give you a clear mind. This is vital when you want to create success in your life. When you like to learn more on how you can manage yourself, your environment and how information influences you, have a look at http://MindmapsUnleashed.com.

Gain Mind Power With Some Mind Control Tricks February 5th, 2011

By Gregory Frost

When talking about the power of the mind, there are plenty of things you can consider as tricks of the trade that people are using at this very day and age to improve their lives and gain an edge over people all around them. It is really important that you understand the true power of the mind and how you can utilise existing mental tricks and tips to gain some great mind power. For one thing, what you are going to read here are just mentions of some good science based systems that have been in use to improve memory and overall mental clarity, and of course, there are thousands of other methods that you can employ to gain an edge in the mental game. This article will serve as a stepping stone in your pursuit of knowledge of mind control tricks.

In a reality that is flooded with information as ours is, keeping track every single information in your personal brain can be a overwhelming task. Sure, virtually all the people can retrieve the general idea of matters, but without unique preparation in proficiencies, it is difficult to perform “error checking”.

As Luck Would Have It, that specified preparation is elementary to get at. All retention proficiencies depend on association. You get the inventory of things you want to learn, and connect them with careful phrases or mental pictures. By connecting these phrases and psychological images jointly into specific sequences, you can recollect the whole series of matters to memorize by recreating back a “motion picture in your brain”.

The psychological paradigms practiced needs to be real and redolent – funny and ridiculous pictures function the best. There exist lists of variance on the mnemotechnical proficiencies, defined below. The peg scheme demands memorizing a inventory of words that are correlated with numbers, usually by sound, or rhyming. For example, toy for one, cars for two, tree diagram for 3, cats for 4, home for 5 and pins for 6. To apply a peg System Of Rules, list the tokens to be remembered, then create a mental picture of something associated to the item to be remembered with the “peg word”, for example, something fuelled out of a firearm would be the start point on the inventory, an item in a pair of huge clown horseshoes would be the next point and so on.

So the game of association can also be related to the mental link system or the visualisation system, which uses strong images and even memory placements as markets to help you to remember things. One other aspect and even application of these techniques is to help you gain some mental clarity and this assists you in getting focus and of course, getting rid of the clutter in your mind. A very useful technique is to actually utilise breathing methods to increase your mental focus and meditate, allowing you to be one with yourself and gain some great mental enhancements just by sitting at home. At the end of the day, there are plenty of great mind power ways with some mind control tricks.

Mind Map Your Way To Internet Marketing Success! February 4th, 2011

When starting into a new enterprise it is unlikely that we’ll have a concrete picture of everything involved to get things up and running. This is nowhere more true than entering into the world of Internet Marketing. We are quite used to thinking in terms of brick and mortar stores that we walk into for shopping, the printed ads and the weekly specials. All things that we can touch with our hands and read with our eyes.

But when we move into the virtual world, hard things disappear. Instead we are working in concepts and fluid designs. We can’t direct our customers to our store with maps and direct them within our stores with aisles. They don’t get to actually pick up an item we are selling and literally feel it for value. Instead, we must guide with virtual sign posts (menus and hyperlinks) and assure value by testimonials.

Where location, location, location is the retail mantra in the physical world, the concept of location evaporates in the virtual world. Drive-by traffic, one of the keystones of a physical business becomes traffic generation – trying to find ways to put your website in front of the eyes of the virtual browsers to entice them to come in.

How do we grasp all of these differences in how business is done in the virtual world? Can we just make a gigantic plan and start filling in the blanks hoping it all works out in the end? To some extent, yes. Yet, finding such a plan is not child’s play. It generally takes great resources of either time or money, and best of all, both!

But what if you are short of time and money? Yet, you want to develop a successful online business. As a person who always seeks to get “The Big Picture” before moving forward I found the lack of time and cash an insurmountable hurdle for determining that big picture.

Instead, I started “learning as I go.” I’d research one aspect, determine the puzzle pieces for that section and work on assembling them as I learned. Of course, I’d rapidly find that to complete that entire section of puzzle pieces, pieces to a different section needed to be created first. And on and on it went.

This was getting extremely complex. I was buried in stacks of sticky notes, notebooks of information and various methods of attempting to stay organized and yet still be able to visualize the interconnectedness of what I was trying to accomplish.

Formulas such as “traffic = email list + auto-responder messages” became connected to “auto-responder choices + auto-responder sequence + message content = auto-responder messages.” Which came first, the proverbial Internet Chicken or the Internet Egg? Or did they have to come simultaneously? Could I complete one formula before tackling another or did I need to keep breaking it down into smaller and smaller pieces getting to the bottom before I could start at all?

About that time I remembered “Spider Outlines,” or what you may know as Mind Maps. This starts as a blank piece of paper with a topic sitting in a circle at the center. As you think of components that go into creating that topic, legs are put out to smaller circles. Interconnections are made between the smaller circles to help show the interdependencies. Well, this rapidly out grew a sheet of paper so the next one would start, and the next and the next. Now your desk is covered with Spider outlines on various pieces of paper… and you still don’t have the big picture. And even if you did, which part should you start on?

Welcome to the world of virtual Mind Maps. These are great tools. Since they are virtual you never hit the edge of the paper! Ah, the best of both worlds. But even better, once you have your Mind Map to a point where you want to start to work, you can convert it into a hierarchical structure which basically resembles a bulleted checklist so that you can just grab a piece at a time, work on it and mark it off. If you need to get something from Branch Z done to use in Branch A, jump over and do that part in Z and then go back to A to complete that section without fear of losing track of where you were in Z or any of the branches in between.

If you start out Mind Mapping by hand, like I did you’ll probably find Tony Buzan’s, author of several books on Mind Mapping suggestions helpful.

Start in the center with an image of the topic, using at least 3 colors.
Use images, symbols, codes, and dimensions throughout your Mind Map.
Select key words and print using upper or lower case letters.
Each word/image is best alone and sitting on its own line.
The lines should be connected, starting from the central image. The central lines are thicker, organic and flowing, becoming thinner as they radiate out from the centre.
Make the lines the same length as the word/image they support.
Use multiple colors throughout the Mind Map, for visual stimulation and also to encode or group.
Develop your own personal style of Mind Mapping.
Use emphasis and show associations in your Mind Map.
Keep the Mind Map clear by using radial hierarchy, numerical order or outlines to embrace your branches.

An alternative is Mind Map software. While Mind Mapping software can be quite expensive, there is at least one free alternative that I find works great: FreeMind by SourceForge. This is an open-source solution that is free for anyone to use. While I’m certainly no expert in this software, I find this tool helpful in getting my scattered thoughts down into a logical sequence. If I put something on Branch 3 that I later realize needs to be on Branch 5, it is easily moved to accommodate my new understanding. Or, if it fits in both, I can create connectors to show the relationship.

Just remember, whatever route you choose, be sure to find an organizational method that works for you or you will get lost as you delve into this new world of Internet Marketing and being lost in mounds of paper and sticky notes will never lead you to online success.
